Finding the Right Horse
Yesterday found us driving to an unknown part of the neighboring state to look at a horse. He is BIG and bold and so beautiful. Exactly what I had in mind
But is he too big? Will I have a fear of him if bucked? Will my 12 yr old safely ride him? She seemed fine but we did walk the two around since I felty uneasy. I mean this gelding was very well behaved. Especially when I was trying to mount and , well, I am not too good without a bucket for help and the woman had no bucket. So they had to help and it ended hillariously the first time but I took him to a slight hill part and made it on
Yes I can laugh about it now but Thank Heavens my dds didn't have the video camera or it would have been on Youtube as soon as we got home!So this begs the question, why a tall horse? Why not? Well for one, a big tall horse can support my heavier body type and do trails quite well. Plus, I feel secure with him. But then on the other hand, the size lends to an insecure feel if thrown. So many thoughts. Size can matter.
So horse #1 is a top contender but the search continues....

just a thought for you , Haflingers are a smaller horse, and can carry heavy adults ( not that you're heavy <<G>>) and tall adults cuz their wider barrel takes up your leg.
i know at my age i'd rather be closer to the gound hehehehe
Too true on the closer to the ground issue, LOL. Our new shared horse is only 15.1(maybe .2) hands and much more easy on my mind! But he has quite a barrel for a quarter horse.
